What would you attempt if you knew you would not fail?

So I have been trying to figure out how to start of my first entry and what to write about. And despite the advice from a friend, I’ve decided to go with a theme: one about change and facing challenges. Having recently being faced with some changes in my life (and trust me, not the welcomed or easy kind), I decided to do something I would have never ordinarily do: face them rather than trying to forget and run. And this has opened me up to the challenge of working on my own personal vices, of creating new ways to establish who I am, and make life fun again.

Have you ever heard of a bucket list (hint: there is a movie named after it) Anyway, I never knew what it was called before but it’s a list of ideas, activities, goals, and anything else that someone wishes to do before they “kick the bucket.” Clever and sick at the same time, right? So, I decided to start creating one. Maybe it’s because of all the unexpected changes in my life, maybe because it’ll my last year in my twenties and feel unaccomplished in many aspects in my life, or maybe it’s just because I’m bored. Who knows why, doesn’t matter. But I know I’d like share this new chapter in hopes that it’ll provide more clarity and motivation to keep on going (despite any future challenges) in my life and that it might help inspire or motivate any readers to create and do a list of their own.

So far I have a bunch of different activities that I’ve always wanted to try but never did, goals I’ve always wanted to achieve but never accomplished, and personal flaws I’ve always wanted to overcome but never did because I never knew where to start and just stopped from there. It’s a mixed bag on my list. There are some I won’t be able to do until the summertime, some will probably take a while to accomplish, and some will probably take seconds. But for me the list isn’t about being able to “cross it off” but rather the trying and experiencing.

So let’s get started. In the middle of writing this entry, a clip from the 1993 ESPY Awards was on: the well known and inspiring speech from Jimmy Valvano when accepting the 1993 Arthur Ashe award. I’ve seen it before but tonight, it had a greater purpose for me.

You should Google or Wikipedia him if you get a chance; he has an amazing story. But his message fits perfectly with the intent of this blog: to laugh, to think, and to cry. To live and enjoy. (Ok so I added the last two but you get the idea)
